Stage 1: Identify Desired Results
In this document I was able to identify what I wanted the students to be able to do and understand by the end of my unit. This document identifies the Common Core Standards that relate to each lesson. This document also identifies all of the Essential Questions for the overall unit and for each lesson. It also lays out the main objectives for each lesson. Stage 1: Identify Desired Results is an important component to the Backward Design process because it sets an outline that the teacher should follow when developing each of the lessons for the unit. It helped to keep me organized and centered on the "Big Idea" throughout the whole unit.

Stage 2: Determine Acceptable Evidence
This document points out how the the culminating assessment activities help the teacher to evaluate the student's overall understanding of each lesson, the unit as a whole, and the Big Idea being taught. I found this document to very helpful. It allowed me to focus on how the different performance tasks throughout the unit helped to inform me about what the students have learned. It also helped me to vary the type of performance activities I was requesting of the students. It reminded me that there are many ways for students to demonstrate understanding and a lot of them are more effective than a multiple choice test!

Stage 3: Plan Learning Experiences
This document is a detailed outline of the essential questions, lesson objectives, and performance tasks for the entire unit. This is a great way to get a quick snapshot of what the entire unit will consist of. This was a vital component to creating the final lessons for my unit because it helped to break all of the unit into a list of easy to follow steps. By creating this document I was able to use this outline to help organize my thinking when I was writing each of my lessons. I think that this was one of the most important steps to the Backwards Design process.

GRASPS
This document is a great template to use when trying to create performance tasks. By following this template I was able to refine each of my performance tasks throughout the unit. Without this template I definitely wouldn't have challenged myself to create deep, thought provoking performance tasks that really challenged the students to share their learned knowledge/understanding with me. I will definitely use this template in the future to help perfect my performance tasks. It helps me to cover all my bases and not accidentally forget any crucial components to each task.

Lesson Plan #2
This lesson focuses on how plants and animals use Smart Solutions (adaptations) to solve their problems in the wild. This lesson gives the students the opportunity to analyze what problems animals face in the wild and how they have adapted to use Smart Solutions to help themselves survive. This lesson connects the Big Idea with Science curriculum. This allows me to maximize my instructional time teaching two topics at once. This lesson also gives students the opportunity to work with a partner during their final performance task of presenting an animal, their problem, and smart solution adaptation to the class using Google Slides.

Lesson Plan #4
This is the culminating lesson. It allows the students to take all that they have learned about Smart Solutions and apply them to making their school/community a better place. The students are asked to identify a problem that the school/community faces. Then the students create an action plan to help solve said problem. The students are required to identify how the problem is negatively impacting students and how the solution will improve the lives of the students at the school. Finally, the students prepare a presentation to share with the principal. The principal will give final approval on all action plans that can be put into action and the class will make sure to follow through on their created action plans.
